I went to the Rockwall festivities at The Harbor the other night. It has been a long time since I shot fireworks and I find it exciting but difficult knowing exactly how to set your camera. Most of the shots were done at F8 for about 5-8 seconds. Since your shutter is open for an extended period of time, it is necessary to use a tripod to minimize any movement. I was wishing the fireworks had lasted longer. I was just beginning to feel a little more comfortable shooting when they were over.
